Wednesday February 4 First Day of Work

Haitians do a lot of traveling in the back of trucks. Today we blended right in. Most of us spent close to three hours bouncing in an open truck to and from our job sites because we are working out in some small villages. Jared, Ron, Marty and Martin were moving earth into an old rice paddy to make a road to connect a village to the main gravel road. In the rainy season the villagers need canoes to get out.  The rest of the crew helped carry stones for a foundation, put up 2 x 6 rafters, and build and paint door and window frames for a "Home of Hope."  Some people had a lot of fun playing with the children.  After supper we joined the staff for Family Nite, a worship and teaching time. Then we got to see Shirley give the guitar that she and John brought down for Elice, a boy they met on their first trip here. It was really neat to watch him play it and break out into the song, "Lord, I Lift Your Name on High."

We are thankful for a good day, and now it's time to take our sunburns and go to bed!

Quote for the day by Jared: "It's hard to believe some of the things we've seen until you're there; pictures just aren't the same."
